On his appointment, Phil Thompson said: "Launching BMT Marine & Offshore Surveys has been an exciting and rewarding challenge. I now look forward to driving the brand forward and expanding the range of services on offer to the marine insurance sector, the mainstay of the global shipping industry."

Peter French, Chief Executive of BMT Group Ltd, commented: "We're delighted to have appointed someone of Phil's expertise. His specialist knowledge will help BMT Marine & Offshore Surveys develop an even more innovative and broad offering to the marine insurance market. He has already accomplished great things during his time at BMT and we look forward to his continuing success at the helm of this new subsidiary."

A long standing employee of BMT, Phil was previously Managing Director of BMT Renewables Ltd, which provides specialist modeling risk services in operability, environment and finance to the renewable energy industry, and Managing Director of BMT SeaTech Ltd, delivering specialist software and instrumentation services to the commercial shipping and offshore sectors.
